NAPP/Kelby Lightroom 2 Tour

Orange County Convention Center D700 - 20mm ƒ2.8 - Instant JPEG from RAWHad a great time yesterday at the LightRoom 2 Tour at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. As the norm of Kelby training seminars they are top quality to learn and have fun at. This has been true since I attended my first Kelby Photoshop training session in NYC at Javitts many years ago to, present day as witnessed yesterday. I was able to say hello to the NAPP team and many of the local Florida people that I have come to know through my site, WhiBal, Raw without FUD, and the big (free!) hit utility Instant JPEG from Raw (thanks to Scott for helping to spread the word!). And of course I always learn a thing or 2 from Scott and the NAPP team.

If any NAPP seminars pass through your area, be sure to check them out, and if you are not a member of NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Photoshop Professionals) you should be.

BTW...NAPP memebers get a 15% discount on WhiBal products, free shipping at B&H and many other discounts.

Instant JPEG From RAW (IJFR)

I gotta tell ya, people are lovin’ that free “Instant JPEG from Raw” utility Michael Tapes and Imagenomic created! Michael, if you were running, I'd vote for you! My thanks once again for doing something so cool and useful for our community! Scott Kelby, Sept. 26
Whew! Talk about a great start for our new website! Last week I had the honor of being the Wednesday Guest Blogger over at Scott Kelby's great blog. I wrote about my new (and free) utility called Instant JPEG From Raw (or IJFR). To say we had an enthusiastic reception would be an understatement. Thanks so much to Scott Kelby and his readers for making me feel so welcome.

Here is the link to my original post. And here is the link to the follow-up by Scott.

Today, I will explain a little more about IJFR based on some of the questions asked over in the comments section of Scott's Blog. Most of this information will also be ported to the FAQs on the site for easy reference.

A floor wax & a dessert topping.

Video and Still Cameras Converge Michael Reichmann has written just last week a timely and amazingly consise yet complete essay :

"Understanding Video:
A Video Primer for Photographers" at The Luminous Landscape.

"The world of image recording seems to consist of two isolated realities – video and still photography. Though they are similar in many ways they are worlds apart in others. But these seemingly irreconcilable worlds are converging, and I have already written on these pages about this convergence. Nikon's announcement of the D90 in late August – the world's first DSLR with video capability – just confirms that the worlds of still photography and video are on an inevitable collision course – at least insofar as equipment goes."

The proper time for multi-camera shoots.

Nikon GP-1We as photographers have a lot to think about when going out on a complex multi-camera shoot. Between getting all (and I mean all) the gear ready for that specific job, batteries fully charged up, enough memory cards pre-formatted (never format a card on the job, but that is the topic of another post), details of the job, enough sleep before, and sufficient caffeine during....well you know the drill. You get to the job and meet the other photographers, each shooting their own set of gear from all walks of life. You barely have time enough for hellos and to hand out assignments, and coverage duties, and you are all off, some shooting and some meeting with the clients (doing the schmooze). Oops, forgot the time-sync the cameras.
